Literacy Geography 2D, interactive online story map
Studies show that the importance and influence of classic literature are declining. In order to prevent this, research into cartography, literary geography and story mapping as well as examples of existing interactive maps was conducted in order to gain a deep understanding of the subject area. The proposed solution is a modernisation of the narrative, which is done by creating an engaging, immersive artefact that focuses around the fictional world of the selected novel: The Wind in the Willows written by Kenneth Grahame in 1908.
The user is able to explore the narrative using the controllable character of the Mole as part of the story map. Additionally, text excerpts from the novel were added and can be accessed by clicking on any of the many interactive locations. A quiz, which is part of the Mole’s House, tests the user’s knowledge of the book and, if answered correctly, reveals a reward.
